Principals often hear, “That’s why you get the big bucks.”

I’m still looking for those bucks.

A principal’s morning can start calm: coffee, a quiet campus, clean halls, and everyone in place. Then the bell rings.

Suddenly, everyone needs something.

A teacher is out sick. A student needs the nurse. Someone needs a tardy slip. Two parents are waiting in the office. The superintendent is calling. There’s a fight in the bathroom. And somehow, you are expected to handle all of it with a smile.

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Mothers may not run a school campus, but many of them know that same feeling. Everyone needs you. Everyone is calling your name. Everyone expects you to know what to do next.

Principals and moms share a similar kind of leadership. It is busy, emotional, exhausting, and often underappreciated. But we keep showing up because we love the people we lead.

Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good,” because the work may be tiring, but it is not wasted. And Colossians 3:23 reminds us to work heartily, as unto the Lord.

So no, we may not always see the “big bucks.” But we do see growth, resilience, character, and purpose. And at the end of the day, tired as we are, we still believe the work matters.
